Liberal Party flagbearer Secretary Mar Roxas said that he had no regrets in the way the government responded to Typhoon Yolanda.
According to GMA News Online, the presidential candidate told reporters in General Santos that the fact that they helped the victims was reason enough not to regret anything.
“Papaano mo iri-regret na nakatulong ako sa ating mga kababayan? Papaano ko... walang regret sa akin. Pumunta ako dun, hindi lang dahil tungkulin ko. Kawawang kawawa ang mga kababayan natin dun. Hindi tayo umuwi, nakatutok po tayo dun hanggang nag-stabilize ang sitwasyon."
(How will I regret it if I helped our fellowmen? I have no regrets. I went there, not just because it was my duty. It was a very difficult time for Filipinos there. We didn't leave until the situation stablized.)
The statement came in response to Binay's attacks on Roxas, mocking a comic book that hailed him a hero in Yolanda, as reported in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Roxas also said that he was an easy target for his fellow candidates because he was the only presidential bet who went to Tacloban, while the others stayed comfortably in their offices.
Typhoon Yolanda hit the Philippines in 2013. It was considered one of the strongest storms ever recorded.
