Fil-American actor Jake Cuenca won the award for best actor for his lead performance in the movie “Mulat” (Awaken) in the 2016 World Cinema Festival.
The movie award ceremony will be held on Saturday at the JW Marriott Hotel in Copacabana, Brazil.
The 29-year-old Kapamilya star posted on his Instagram account to congratulate the film director, Marian Diane Ventura, and the cast and crew of the movie. Aside from bagging the best actor award, the movie also got the prize for Best Narrative Feature.
The thriller movie also stars Loren Burgos and Ryan Eigenmann. The Filipino film focuses on how much choice a person really has in shaping his destiny. It also deals with the effects of mental illness and how it can change the different aspects of a person’s life.

The good news about Jake Cuenca’s best actor award comes after the recent win of Filipino actress Jaclyn Jose for the prestigious best actress award at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival for her role in Brillante Mendoza’s 'Ma Rosa.' The movie is about Rosa Reyes (Jaclyn Jose), a poor mother who has to survive by selling drugs with his husband Nestor (Julio Diaz).
