Amid the COVID-19 situation globally, a Filipina in the United Kingdom has brought pride and honor to her homeland, Philippines.
KAMI learned that Cynthia Baker was recently elected as the Mayor of Hertsmere last June 24, 2020.
In a video by Balitang Global on Facebook, Barker first made history when she was elected as a councilor in the United Kingdom back in 2015.
In 2019, she also made a historic win when she was elected as the first Filipina to become a Deputy Mayor in the United Kingdom.
“Ako po ay lubusang naantig sa inyong mga suporta at pagbati ukol sa aking pagkakahirang na bagong Mayor ng Hertsmere,” she said.
“Ang aking pagkakaupo bilang isang mayor dito sa UK, ay katunayan na tinatanggap at kinikilala ang mga Pilipino sa bansang Inglatera,” she added.
Cynthia said that her mother is an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) and she was the one who helped her migrate to the United Kingdom. She finished industrial engineering from Adamson University.
She admitted that her Filipino blood and culture helped her a lot as a great leader in a foreign country.
“The more mature I become, the more I realize my Philippine blood, the Philippine culture, my upbringing ‘yung strength ko,” she said.
Cyntia Baker was among the two Filipinos who became government officials in the United Kingdom and brought pride to the Philippines.
Filipino Danny Favor from Camarines Sur was elected as a mayor in East Grinstead, Sussex about a year ago.
Meanwhile, another Pinay brought pride and honor to the Philippines when Filipina-Australian Melanie Perkins was named as the youngest billionaire in Australia.
