President Rodrigo Duterte has been criticized for his allegedly poor response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
His critics say that his appointed DOH secretary has done a poor job of contact tracing, that the government should have done mass testings to contain the virus, and that he should have laid out a clear and detailed plan on how to overcome the crisis.
KAMI learned that amid the criticisms, the President found a supporter from a former president of the country, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
According to Arroyo’s Facebook post, many people are comfortable criticizing the government’s efforts to battle COVID-19 since they are not the ones in charge and they do not have all of the info that the President has.

"It is easy for them to be a Monday morning quarterback because they are not the ones in charge,” Arroyo said.
Rodrigo Duterte is the 16th and incumbent President of the Philippines and the first from Mindanao to hold the office. He is also the oldest person to assume the Philippine presidency at age 71.
Recently, President Duterte delivered his 5th State of the Nation Address. Among the topics he discussed were COVID-19 response, the West Philippine Sea, education, and telecommunication companies. His SONA received mixed reactions, with some critics saying that he was not able to lay out a detailed plan in battling the pandemic.
He also heeded the call of healthcare workers for the government to provide more help in their battle against COVID-19. President Rodrigo Duterte did so by reverting several cities and provinces back to a modified enhanced community quarantine. The President also approved the hiring of more health care workers amid the pandemic and the addition of more benefits to COVID-19 frontliners.
