President Rodrigo Duterte addressed medical frontliners after they made a public appeal to extend the ECQ in Metro Manila so as to give them a temporary relief because they are already very tired.
The country has already breached the P100,000 mark in COVID cases and many of these are in Metro Manila or Cebu.
The President addressed them late Sunday, saying that he understood the plight of the frontliners who are already weary from the fight, but at the same time, he reminded them how they're trained to fight off the disease.
He also scolded frontliners for going public.
Here are a number of his statements as per Manila Bulletin.
"This is a profession that you, all of you, and all who are educated and trained to face such challenges, you are frontliners in the battle because you are learned in this field."
"Wag kayong mawalan ng pag-asa… You stretch your patience, and—not endurance because you can only take so much—your fervor na ikaw ay isang medical na tao at tiwala kami sa inyong kakayahan."
"You raise the spectacle of your agony and you treat it as if you’re about ready to stop work. ‘Wag naman ganoon kasi kawawa ang mga kababayan, Sino ang maasahan ngayon," said Duterte.
He even said that frontliners could have written them a letter as the government is not inutile.
He added, "Kung magrebolusyon kayo (If you’ll start a revolution), you will give me a free ticket to stage a counter-revolution."
“Do not try to demean the government. Instead, you just go ahead [and revolt]. Bayan man natin ito. Gusto niyo sirain natin," he stated.
The government faced problems when they imposed the initial community quarantine, which was elevated into enhanced community quarantine. It also suspended transportation causing massive problems with commuters.
Doctors have died after being infected by COVID-19. They are among the frontliners who attend to the patients rushing to hospitals amid pandemic.
