After the Palace remained optimistic that the COVID-19 situation is being handled well in the country, some doctors admitted that the situations in the hospitals are getting worse.
KAMI learned that the Department of Health (DOH) also admitted that hospitals are now being overwhelmed with COVID-19 cases.
In a report by 24 Oras, Dr. John Besa of the Philippine General Hospital revealed that while some of the data that the government released were true, the situation in the hospitals is getting worse than before.
“‘Yung mga sinasabi sa news na numbers, technically ‘yung iba do’n totoo pero you can’t handpick the data and make it appear na okay tayo,” he said.
“I am telling everyone na in the front lines, hindi talaga okay. Sobrang mas malala tayo kumpara noong una,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Infectious disease specialist Dr. Monica Reyes-Montecillo also confessed that people at the front line are getting exhausted.
“We are seeing more severe cases. The reality is lahat ng tao sa front lines pagod na,” she said.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire admitted that the country’s healthcare system is being overwhelmed and that the COVID-19 bed occupancy has reached the warning zone.
“Nationally, malapit na po na ma-overwhelm ang health system natin… kaya naman nakikiusap po kami sa inyo na sumunod po tayo sa minimum health standards,” she said.
The coronavirus disease or COVID-19 was first reported in Wuhan, China. It has affected more than 16 million people across the globe.
The Philippines currently has a total of 83,673 confirmed cases of COVID-19. This figure is getting close to the number of cases that China has.
The latest study also revealed that lockdown measures do not necessarily help in helping curb the spread of coronavirus.
