Manila Police District chief Rolando Miranda explained to ABS-CBN's TeleRadyo why two cops confiscated protest materials inside the Quiapo Church during a mass.

Miranda revealed that a church worker complained to the police after seeing members of the Akbayan Partylist group displaying protest materials during the mass.

After receiving the complaint from the church worker, the policemen entered the church to confiscate the protest materials.

The police chief argued that most of the people attending the mass did not notice the cops confiscating the materials and that it was the Akbayan Partylist group that was disrespecting the mass.

“We received information that they will storm out and while Senator Risa Hontiveros is having a presscon, they will stand behind her and serve as background. But if you’re in church and you wish to pray to the Black Nazarene, you don’t have to bring a placard to church and show your placard while praying.

"Kung ikaw ay magsisimba at mananalangin ka sa Poong Maykapal sa Black Nazarene, hindi mo kailangang magdala ng placard sa loob ng simbahan at ilabas ang mga placard habang kayo' a nananalangin. Ano ba ang layunin mo pag nagsimba? Manalangin at magdasal, ipagdasal ang bayan, ipagdasal ang sarili, ipagdasal ang kaibigan. Hindi para iladlad ang mga placard na nakalagay 'No to Anti-terror.’

"Hindi naman po nagkaroon ng commotion, wala naman pong nakapansin na kinuha...Mas nakakawalang-galang na may linaladlad kayong placard habang may nagmimisa," Miranda explained.

This is not the first time that the PNP caused a controversy. NCRPO Chief Gen. Debold Sinas made headlines due to his "mañanita" amid the ECQ.

More than 40 people gathered in one place at the time, which was supposedly prohibited.

President Rodrigo Duterte defended Sinas, stating that he will remain in his position. Gen. Debold Sinas even stated that there was nothing wrong with the celebration.
