Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar revealed on Wednesday that he tested positive for the coronavirus disease or COVID-19.

KAMI learned that the Cabinet official confirmed this news through a social media post.

In a Facebook post, Villar said that he received his result on July 15 and announced it to the public.

“I regret to announce that today, July 15, I received my test result and it is positive for COVID-19,” he wrote in his post.

According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, he is now waiting for his swab test result that he took via drive-thru testing in Taguig on Tuesday. He was with Villar in a virtual presser last Friday.

Mark Villar is the son of former Senate President Manny Villar and incumbent Senator Cynthia Villar. The DPWH secretary was assigned by the government to be the "isolation czar" against COVID-19. He is also the third Cabinet member who tested positive for coronavirus disease.

On March 31, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año confirmed that he also tested positive for the coronavirus disease.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones also announced on April 9 that she tested positive for COVID-19.
