Naya Rivera, the Hollywood actress who became known for starring in the series “Glee,” was found dead at the age of 33 on Monday, July 13.
Her body was found floating in Lake Piru, California, five days after she went missing from a boat on the Los Angeles reservoir, according to a report by Mariah Haas and Julius Young for Fox News.
Julia Reinstein and David Mack of Buzzfeed News reported that authorities believe Naya’s body got entangled in the shrubbery at the bottom of the lake for days before it finally rose to the surface of the water.
In a report by Natalie Stone for People, Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub revealed that Naya’s 4-year-old son, Josey, told authorities that he had been swimming in the lake with his mom when she decided to boost him into the boat from behind. When he looked back, she has already disappeared under the water surface.
He added that currents are frequent in the lake during the afternoon, when Naya presumably disappeared.
"We know from speaking with her son, that he and Naya swam in the lake together at some point during their journey. It was during that time that her son described being helped into the boat by Naya, who boosted him onto the deck from behind.
"The idea perhaps being that the boat started drifting, it was unanchored, and that she mustered enough energy to get her son back onto the boat, but not enough to save herself," Ayub said.
Naya Rivera was an American actress, model, and singer who gained more prominence after portraying the character of Santana Lopez in the musical-comedy series entitled “Glee.”
In 2011, she was nominated in Grammy Awards for “Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.”
Aside from “Glee,” she also became a cast member in other well-acclaimed projects such as "The Royal Family" and "The Master of Disguise." She made headlines in July after disappearing from a boat.
Five days later, her body was found lifeless in Lake Piru. Kelly Preston, another Hollywood actress, also died in July. She was the wife of actor John Travolta.
