Vilma Santos explains voting in favor of ABS-CBN, facing consequences of her vote

Vilma Santos earned praises from many Filipinos for being one of the 11 congressmen who voted in favor of renewing ABS-CBN’s franchise as opposed to the 70 congressmen who voted against the network.

KAMI learned that Santos has opened up about her decision to vote for the franchise renewal despite President Rodrigo Duterte’s alleged desire for the congressmen to vote against it.

The Deputy Speaker Batangas 6th District Representative explained that she sided with the Kapamilya network since its executives were able to answer all of the allegations against the company during the Congress’ hearings on the matter.

The congresswoman added that she is ready to face the consequences of siding with ABS-CBN.

She claimed in the same interview that she has experienced something similar in the past when she lost her chairmanship in 2017 after voting against the reinstitution of the death penalty.

“It happened to me already when I voted ‘no’ do’n sa death penalty…sinabi nila na kailangan masuportahan yung major bill na ‘yun, ‘yung death penalty. I stood my ground and I voted ‘no’ so I lost my chairmanship.
So ako personally, umasa na kahit papano, may balanse na sanang mangyayari sa kanilang magiging desisyon sa pagboto,” Vilma said, according to Christia Marie Ramos’ report for The Philippine Daily Inquirer.
