- The latest claim made by 239 scientists states that coronavirus is airborne
- This came after they saw a surge in infections coming from markets, offices, restaurants and casinos
- The World Health Organization stood pat that coronavirus is spread by large respiratory droplets but the open letter from 239 scientists worldwide seek to show otherwise
- These scientists claim that whether the virus is carried through the air after a sneeze or a cough, the virus is borne through the air and can infect people when it is inhaled
A group of 239 experts from around the world wrote an open letter to the World Health Organization (WHO), highlighting evidence that coronavirus is airborne.
KAMI learned that the virus can be carried through the air via droplets, whether large or in aerosol form, and can infect people through mere breathing or when the air with the virus is inhaled.
As per the NYTimes report, the scientists hailed from 32 countries and they are urging the United Nations health agency to revise their COVID-19 recommendations.
If airborne transmission will play a significant role, then containment measures will be greatly impacted.
N95 masks would be needed to filter the tiniest droplets. Due to being airborne, masks may be needed to be worn indoors even with social physical distancing.
Doctors have died after being infected by COVID-19. They are among the frontliners who attend to the patients rushing to hospitals amid pandemic.
Frontliners have also expressed their fears and the difficulties that they go through at the hospital especially with the ongoing crisis.
The COVID-19 outbreak started out in Wuhan, Hubei Province of China. Scientists believed that the virus came from an animal at one of Wuhan's wet markets. The Philippines has slowly eased quarantine measures and Filipinos are starting to adapt to the new normal.
