Meet Pumpkin: a young dog who has been burned, shot with a pellet gun and left to die on the streets of Houston.
To add insult to injury, a man snapped a photo of her and posted it on Facebook – only to make a joke about the mutt: "LOL. Only in the 3rd ward, I see a burned up dog."
Thankfully, some better people came across the picture and immediately set out to track Pumpkin down.
The rescuers were able to find the dog, who was very sick and starving by then. She also had a puppy, but, unfortunately, the little one soon died from undernourishment. Pumpkin survived.
She was taken in by Kelly, who was already foster mom to three other rescue dogs. Under Kelly's watchful eye Pumpkin underwent an amazing transformation: her once-matted fur grew back shiny and white, her wounds healed, and her lively spirit started to shine.
