After going to the Close Up Forever Summer concert on Saturday, five are reported dead by the National Capital Region Police Office on May 22, Sunday.
Those who died were Ariel Leal, 22-year-old single and native of Baguio City, Lance Garcia, a married 36-year-old living in Pasig, Bianca Fontejon, 18-year-old single, Ken Migawa, 18-year-old resident of Antipolo, Rizal, and American citizen Eric Anthony Miller, 33.
Ariel, Lance, and Ken were seen unconscious in different areas. They were carried to San Juan De Dios Hospital in Pasay City. At 3:37 a.m., Sunday, Attending physician Dr. Amado Flores declared Lance as dead on arrival. Bianca and Eric were taken to the Manila Doctors Hospital. The former died at 4:25 a.m. while Eric died at 5:55 a.m. as confirmed by Dr. Roberto Ruiz.
The tragic incident was also reported by the Manila Police District (MPD).
According to the police report, initial investigation revealed that the victims were not related to each other and they attended the concert with their respective company.
It was discovered that there were several merchants and concessionaires in the venue that were allowed to sell food, beverages, and liquors.
Pasay City Police started its in-depth investigation, seeing the incident on various angles and considering other factors such as dehydration, heat stroke, and even the possibility of drugs as cause of death.
Close Up released a statement on their social media account saying that "We regret that despite the very stringent measures and precautions we have put in place to ensure the safety and security of all attendees involved, this incident still transpired.”
The toothpaste company also said that strict protocols were followed to immediately provide medical assistance to those who were found unconscious as they were brought to the nearest hospital.
Annie Garcia, SM Supermalls president, also expressed compassion on the incident and assured that they will also participate with Close Up Philippines, the event organizers, and government authorities in the ongoing investigation.
