- Another joint hearing was conducted to tackle the controversial franchise renewal of ABS-CBN
- The issue on the dual citizenship of ABS-CBN chairman emeritus Gabby Lopez was also raised again
- House Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta asked the said executive to recite the first line of “Panatang Makabayan”
- However, he was not convinced after hearing the words uttered by the ABS-CBN big boss
House Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta asked Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez, the chairman emeritus of ABS-CBN, to recite the first line of the Philippine “Patriotic Oath.”
KAMI learned that the said incident happened during the recent joint hearing regarding the much-talked-about franchise renewal of the said popular media network.
Lopez’s dual citizenship has been one of the major issues that Marcoleta and other personalities have been bringing up every time the ABS-CBN franchise is being discussed.
“Ganito na lamang po para matapos tayo sa issue ng allegiance…” the lawmaker quipped.
“Mawalang-galang na po, Mr. Lopez. Pwede ba naming hilingin sa inyo na i-recite ninyo yung unang linya ng Panatang Makabayan?" he added.
The ABS-CBN executive, who virtually attended the hearing via Zoom, suddenly scratched his head and talked to someone off-cam after hearing the question.
He then uttered the words “Iniibig ko ang Pilipinas” in compliance with what Marcoleta wanted him to do.
However, the deputy speaker was not convinced by the response of the chairman emeritus. He claimed that Lopez was coached by his lawyer.
In a previous article by KAMI, Solicitor General Jose Calida straightforwardly said “the end is near” for the Kapamilya network.
ABS-CBN is one of the leading broadcast networks in the Philippines. Its 25-year franchise expired on May 4 and it was not able to secure another franchise.
