Senator Nancy Binay has weighed in on the struggles of commuters going to their work during the general community quarantine in Metro Manila.
KAMI learned that Binay challenged the officials of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to try to commute going to their work to understand the struggles of commuters.
In a Facebook post, Binay questioned the plans of DOTr for the commuters while there is still a threat of COVID-19 in the country.
“Mabuti sila't aircon ang mga sasakyan. Kung subukan kaya ng mga opisyal ng DOTr mag-commute papasok sa opisina nila sa Clark City o Ortigas?” Binay said.
“Dapat maramdaman nila ang hirap ng mga commuter. They won't be able to plan well if they don't understand the people's daily struggles,” she added.
The lawmaker also pointed out not all Filipinos have the means to travel by private cars, motorcycles, or bicycles. She also mentioned that not everyone is capable of walking many kilometers just to go to work.
“Di po sila experiment. Our workers and the commuting public don’t deserve this kind of treatment. For the past three months, they’ve sacrificed more than enough,” she added.
In a previous report by KAMI, a group of security guards has been waiting for four hours just to find transportation.
Under the general community quarantine, some businesses are allowed to open. However, not all means of mass transportation are allowed to operate.
