A couple in Samar had their church wedding amid the crisis of COVID-19 in the Philippines.
KAMI learned that the couple shared what church weddings would look like in the “new normal.”
As reported by The Freeman, Zohn Villas and Asila Costelo exchanged their “I dos” in their church wedding last May 21.
The newlywed couple is both nurses by profession. They understood that there will be changes when it comes to church weddings now that social distancing is being strictly observed in the country. Therefore, when Samar transitioned from enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to general community quarantine (GCQ), they took this opportunity to get married.
"Revised plan was civil wedding pa unta para ang planned church wedding will push through if ok na ang tanan but we are destined siguro for church wedding kay no judge was available to conduct the civil wedding," Zohn said.
He also shared that even before the COVID-19 crisis, their love was already tested for being in a long-distance relationship for 5 years. Zohn is from Bohol, while his wife is from Samar.
"Siguro, when love is tested by circumstances - kay from 5 years LDR, sad mi to COVID-19 crisis - it will always find its way to where it is destined to be,” he added.
Earlier, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) released a new set of guidelines for church wedding ceremonies amid the COVID-19 crisis.
According to the new normal in weddings, entourage or 'abays' will no longer be allowed. Wedding ceremonies are to be observed with social distancing and avoid mass gathering.
