Former Senator Tessie Aquino-Oreta passed away on Thursday night.
KAMI learned that the news was confirmed by her son, Malabon Mayor Antolin “Lenlen” Oreta on Facebook.
In the post, Mayor Oreta remembered his mother as a “loving grandmother, mother, and wife and a friend.”
“On behalf of my family, it is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my mom at 10:48 p.m. of May 14,” he wrote in the post.
“Former Senator Tessie Aquino-Oreta was a public servant who devoted her life to the country and her adopted hometown of Malabon. She was a loving grandmother, mother, and wife and a friend to those whose lives she touched,” he added.
He also asked for prayers for the eternal repose of his mother.
According to the report of CNN Philippines, Tessie was the youngest sister of the late former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr.
She was elected as a Senator in 1998 during the 11th Congress. In 1987 until 1998, she was the Representative of the district of Malabon-Navotas and served three consecutive terms at the House of Representatives.
As reported by the Manila Bulletin (authored by Hannah Torregoza), some of her bills were the Early Childhood Care and Development Act, Solo Parent Act, and Solid Waste Management Act.
