- The resolution stated that ABS-CBN has been gaining huge amount of money through frequencies provided by the government for free
Davao City Representative Paolo Duterte and two other lawmakers filed a resolution on May 11 that seeks to probe the alleged violations of ABS-CBN which led to its closure.
KAMI learned that the presidential son, together with ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Eric Yap and Rep. Abraham Tolentino, also enumerated the alleged violations of the media giant.
Based on House Resolution 853 that the said lawmakers submitted, the TV network collected money using free-to-air signals through its Kapamilya Box Office Channel.
It also allegedly continued its pay-per-view operations despite receiving an order from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).
“By charging the public with this pay-per-view Kapamilya Box Office channel through ABS-CBN TV Plus, it has been gaining huge profits at the expense of the public while using the air frequencies provided by the government for free,” the resolution said.
The three representatives also stated that the broadcast corporation violated the law when it continuously issued Philippine Depository Receipts (PDR) to foreigners.
Because of the abovementioned claims, the son of President Rodrigo Duterte and the two other House lawmakers are requesting the Committee on Legislative Franchise to conduct an investigation.
In a previous article by KAMI, Judy Ann Santos appealed to the government about the ABS-CBN franchise issue.
Paolo Duterte is currently the representative of the 1st district of Davao. He served as the vice mayor of the said city from 2013, but decided to resign in 2018.
