A frontliner in Cainta, Rizal has recently passed away due to severe humid weather while he was on duty.
According to GMA News, the frontliner was identified as Arvic Macarilay, 38 years old, an audio technician and DJ who voluntarily assisted in monitoring checkpoints in Cainta amid the enhanced quarantine community.
He is a member of the Barangay Community Action Group in Cainta in charge of apprehending ECQ violators.
According to his relative, Arvic became dizzy while on duty on May 6, during the heat of the day. He then became unconscious and was taken to the hospital.
Although he went conscious at the hospital, Arvic suffered seizures. He also experienced chest pain.
According to the doctor, Arvic died after a blood vessel in his brain ruptured.
The volunteer, who lost his life from heatstroke while performing his duties, was honored for his heroism in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to WebMD, Heatstroke results from prolonged exposure to high temperatures, usually in combination with dehydration, which leads to failure of the body's temperature control system.
The medical definition of heatstroke is a core body temperature greater than 104 degrees Fahrenheit, with complications involving the central nervous system that occur after exposure to high temperatures. Other common symptoms include nausea, seizures, confusion, disorientation, and sometimes loss of consciousness or coma.
