Former President Benigno Aquino III finally broke his silence on the shutdown of ABS-CBN.
KAMI learned that Aquino, through a text message sent to Rapper on Wednesday, May 6, aired his side on the controversial closure.
According to Aquino, "This administration has put itself into a corner unnecessarily. If there is a significant and sustained support for the reopening of [ABS-CBN], it will happen."
He also added that he will not be commenting any further.
"I won't comment presently lest I help them inadvertently in solving their unnecessary problem," said the former President.
As per Rappler, Aquino, during his term, repeatedly asked media for fairer coverage of news, but despite his pleas not doing anything, a clampdown did not happen.
Before Aquino made his statement, former VP Jejomar Binay also aired out his side on the controversial shutdown of Philippines' largest network.
In a previous KAMI report, the hashtag #NoToABSCBNShutDown trended worldwide on Twitter following the cease and desist order and shutdown of the Kapamilya network.
ABS-CBN is one of the most popular media and entertainment outfits in the Philippines. It has produced top-caliber stars, well-loved programs, and timely news. Some of the popular shows are “It’s Showtime” and “TV Patrol.”
