Department of Education Secretary Leonor Briones finally announced that the opening of school year 2020-2021would be on August 24.
The Secretary clarified during the Facebook Public Briefing: #LagingHandaPH that it does not necessarily mean that it would be a physical opening as it could be virtual due to the coronavirus pandemic, or physical, in areas where the physical opening would be allowed. The school year would end by April 30, 2021.
Secretary Briones underscored children's health as their primary consideration above all. The Secretary also announced that they are currently weighing flexible learning options or a variety of teaching media.
In a previous report by KAMI, the government faced problems when they imposed the initial community quarantine, which was elevated into enhanced community quarantine. It also suspended transportation causing massive problems with commuters.
The coronavirus outbreak started out in Wuhan, Hubei Province of China. Scientists believed that the virus came from an animal at one of Wuhan's wet markets. At present, the Philippines is under a state of calamity while the entire Luzon is under an enhanced community quarantine.
