President Rodrigo Duterte offered reward money for those who will report local officials stealing cash assistance from the government amid the COVID-19 crisis.

KAMI learned that the reward came after a barangay councilor in Hagonoy, Bulacan allegedly took some cash from the financial assistance.

In a report by GMA News Online (authored by Julia Mari Ornedo), Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the government will not tolerate corruption, especially taking money supposedly given to poor families.

As reported by CNN Philippines, the President also asked the mayors of local government to look into local officials who commissioned from the cash supposedly distributed for residents.

“‘Yung mga mayors naman, kindly look into the people that you have commissioned to do the distribution sa pera. Kagaya nitong [Flores]…

Earlier, GMA News reported that Flores allegedly took P3,500 from the P6,500 cash assistance to each beneficiary in Barangay San Agustin. He said that he had an “internal agreement” with the recipients that some parts of the cash aid will be given to those not included in the social amelioration program.

However, the beneficiaries said that they were not told why they did not get the full amount of cash aid.
