- It has already been a month since the quarantine was imposed and the PWD couple has not received any help
A blind couple who used to sing under the overpass failed to receive any cash assistance under the social amelioration program (SAP) from the barangay because they were not registered.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, Jessie and Norma Morante lamented how they have not yet received the cash assistance from the time that the lockdown has been imposed.
KAMI learned it has already been a month and the little savings that they have is about to run out already.
The couple lives on their own in a rented room and no one is there to help them.
When they went to the barangay, they were allegedly not given any assistance because they were not registered there.
The wife said, what pains them the most is that they, as PWDs, should be prioritized by the government, but that isn't happening at all.
"Napakahirap kasi dapat gobyerno priority PWD tulad namin," said Jessie.
"Minsan di kami kumakain. Wala [kaming] matakbuhan, walang magulang, walang tutulong sa amin dalawa," added Norma.
ABS-CBN noted that the barangay where the blind couple went has not yet given a statement. On the other hand, the City of Parañaque promises to help them.
In a previous report by KAMI, the government faced problems when they imposed the initial community quarantine, which was elevated into enhanced community quarantine. It also suspended transportation causing massive problems with commuters.
The coronavirus outbreak started out in Wuhan, Hubei Province of China. Scientists believed that the virus came from an animal at one of Wuhan's wet markets. At present, the Philippines is under a state of calamity while the entire Luzon is under an enhanced community quarantine.
