Two elderly grandmothers, Lola Evelyn Bautista and Lola Teodirica Tampelic expressed that they felt bad when the cash aid that they received under the social amelioration program (SAP) was taken back from them by the government.
KAMI learned that the reason behind the retrieval was that they were pensioners and were receiving a pension every month.
According to Lola Evelyn, "Ang sakit din po kaya kahit pa isipin mo na kami ay may kaunting pension eh pare-pareho lang naman tayong mamamayan na nangangailangan lalo na sa pagkakataong ito."
As per the video of ABS-CBN, Lola Teodirica said, "Mahalagang mahalaga po sa akin dahil nagme-maintenance po ako na P64 araw-araw. Wala ako magawa binawi e."
Despite expressing their sadness, the Municipal Social Welfare Development Office stated that pensioners were among those who were excluded from the list of beneficiaries.
The department also explained that they were just following the guidelines that were given to them.
The local government would be replacing the cash aid that was taken from the two elderly lolas.
In a previous report by KAMI, the government faced problems when they imposed the initial community quarantine, which was elevated into enhanced community quarantine. It also suspended transportation causing massive problems with commuters.
The coronavirus outbreak started out in Wuhan, Hubei Province of China. Scientists believed that the virus came from an animal at one of Wuhan's wet markets. At present, the Philippines is under a state of calamity while the entire Luzon is under an enhanced community quarantine.
