A head nurse from the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) who worked for seven straight days was found unconscious inside her room.

Earlier, the relatives of Faye Marie Luna Palafox, 46 years old, revealed through a Facebook post that the frontliner has died but they asked for privacy to mourn the loss of their loved one.

In a recent exclusive report by 24 Oras, it was confirmed that Faye died of respiratory failure. She was tested negative for coronavirus disease after handling the health facility’s COVID-19 ward.

According to her niece, Ericka Jean Palafox, fatigue could have set off her health complications: hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease.

"Sa duty niya medyo meron siyang mga limitations na hindi naman puwedeng gawin. Siguro naka-trigger talaga 'yung pressure, 'yung stress," Ericka said.

Although Ericka told her aunt to take vacation leave, the head nurse said she did not want to leave her duty and colleagues amid the battle against COVID-19.

"Sabi niya kasi she cannot back up, she has her duties and moral obligations, kaya she still... nag-duty pa rin po siya," Ericka shared.

Ericka described her aunt as cheerful and resilient, however, she found out later that Faye had her own anxieties.

"Nung nahawakan ko 'yung cellphone niya ngayon na wala na siya, sa iba niya pala sinasabi na natatakot siya, na nahihirapan siya, na kinakabahan po siya kasi baka may mangyari sa kanya while on duty," the nurse’s niece said.

Ericka furthermore said, "Sobrang hats off, sobrang salute kasi siya 'yung perfect example na dapat tularan ng lahat."
