Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the US National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, revealed the results of an experimental drug for COVID-19 that they studied.

In a report by NBC News (authored by Erika Edwards), Fauci said at the White House on Wednesday that the said study involved 1,000 patients from different locations across the globe.

The patients involved in the trials either received a drug called remdesivir or a placebo.

Fauci said that the patients who received remdesivir were discharged from the hospital within 11 days compared to the 15 days of the patients who received a placebo.

Based on a report by The Guardian (authored by Sarah Bosely), Fauci also shared that 8 percent of the patients who received the drug died of COVID-19 compared to the 11 percent of the placebo group.

“The data shows that remdesivir has a clear-cut, significant, positive effect in diminishing the time to recovery…

"What it has proven is that a drug can block this virus," Fauci said.

In a report by CNN, Fauci said that the study about the mortality rate comparison of the remdesivir group and the placebo group will still undergo further analysis.
