A lot of unfortunate Filipinos are currently relying on the cash assistance from the government, especially those with livelihoods that are seriously affected by the lockdown.
While financial aids are very important for many families during these trying times, a man from the province of Nueva Ecija purportedly misused the assistance his live-in partner received.
In an article by ABS-CBN News, a woman in San Jose City reported her 47-year-old partner after he stole from her the cash aid she received from the Social Amelioration Program (SAP).
According to her, the amount of cash stolen by her partner is P6,500.
The suspect was then found drinking alcohol in Barangay Calaocan on April 22. His partner was able to recover only P3,500 because the rest of her money was already used.
The man was charged with violating the liquor ban while the shop where he bought liquor was also warned.
According to Philippine Information Agency, SAP is a cash emergency subsidy program for millions of Filipino families whose lives are greatly affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). It is mandated by the Bayanihan To Heal As One Act, signed by the President last March 25, 2020.
In a previous report by KAMI, to provide transparency and avoid doubts on his headship, a barangay chairman in Laguna bravely posted the names of his constituents who are on the list of Social Amelioration Program (SAP) financial assistance beneficiaries.
At present, the Philippines is under a state of calamity while the entire Luzon is under an ECQ to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019.
