Netizens took to social media their rants after the traffic and inconvenience they endured due to the evangelical mission of the influential church Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).
On Tuesday, thousands of commuters and motorists suffered standstill traffic on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City where a section of the highway was used for a medical and dental mission of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).
Iglesia ni Cristo spokesperson Edwil Zabala apologized for what the influential church may have caused.
"I can only apologize. We truly understand how a motorist, or even someone who is traveling, gets stuck in traffic. How they would feel especially with the heat," Zabala said.
For those who address the church as inconsiderate for occupying the entire northbound lane of Commonwealth Avenue from Sandiganbayan to Litex Market, must look at it in a broader perspective says Zabala.
He said that commuters and vehicle owners who were affected by the traffic should realize that they are actually contributing to a greater cause instead of complaining.
"Yun na lang yung tulong sa part ko na tiniis ko yung traffic, tiniis ko yung uhaw, tiniis ko na hindi agad ako nakarating sa pupuntahan ko. Yun yung bahagi ko doon. Sana ganoon na lang ang gawin nung mga nagrereklamo," Zabala noted.
"Hopefully mabalanse ang inis nila sa amin noong kaligayahan na lang na nararamdaman ng mga kababayan natin na less fortunate na maseserbisyuhan natin,” he added.
Zabala furthered that Commonwealth Avenue is the only available area around the district that they could use for the good cause. He said INC hopes that the public can see how they can be of help to the less fortunate through the activity.
A section of the highway was closed to use as a venue for the church’s evangelical mission.
Meanwhile, on Friday, May 20, the INC apologized for another event which may cause heavy traffic. The church issued traffic advisories in preparation for their event on Sunday via text message sent to GMA News. According to the text message, commuters along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) may expect traffic starting 8am on May 22.
"Expect heavy traffic po along NLEX. Humihingi na po kami ng paumanhin at pang-unawa sa mga maaabala. Maraming salamat po," the message read.
