Dr. Leandro Resurreccion III, an acclaimed pediatric surgeon in the Philippines, was among the doctors who succumbed to COVID-19.
His son, Jan Resurreccion, finally shared the things that transpired during the final days of his father.
In a video by ABS-CBN, Jan described the painful journey that they had, in battling the disease.
It was a rollercoaster ride, as the good doctor would show signs of recovery one day, only to be thwarted again the next day.
Jan recalled that there was an incident when the family was very hopeful because Dr. Resurreccion stabilized, but the joy was short-lived as his condition went bad again the next.
As the disease progressed, Jan said that if before they had good days and bad days, it eventually became like good hours, then bad hours.
The fateful day came with this heartbreaking conversation between Jan and the doctor of his father:
Jan: "Doc kamusta?"
Doc: "He's not responding."
Jan: "Ökay doc, let's just call it. Just make him rest."
Jan then said, that it was the hardest decision that he ever made in his entire life. It was done over the phone, without a video call or anything, without any goodbyes.
