One of the biggest dilemmas that most COVID-19 patients face is the total amount of their hospital bills during their stay at the hospital.

KAMI learned that a hospital bill of a COVID-19 patient has recently made headlines on social media as his bill reached PHP 3.8M

Watch the video below:

According to the article by GMA News (authored by Angelica Garcia), the hospital bill of the COVID-19 patient reached PHP 3.8M in a span of 16 days.

The son of the COVID-19 patient, Jerome, not his real name, recounted that his father was in critical condition during his stay in the hospital.

On the first day, Jerome shared that the initial bill already reached PHP 177,000. However, they did not have any other options since hospitals could no longer accommodate them, “That time, no choice kami.

"Wala nang tumatanggap sa amin na kahit anong ospital. Ang nagpamahal dito is yung ER kasi, ang rate nila is P2,800 per hour so doon medyo tumagal kasi puno yung mga ICU."

In his father's hospital bill, the doctor's fee amounted to PHP 200,000 while the laboratory tests and pulmonary services cost more than PHP 400,000.

The total cost of the medicines, however, reached a whopping amount of PHP 1.4M.

The hospital bill of Jerome's father was eventually shouldered by The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation who announced earlier in April that they will pay the full cost of the treatment of COVID-19 patients until April 14.
