A father went viral after he walked from Makati hospital to Pasig, carrying his dead son placed inside a box.
As per ABS-CBN (authored by Maan Macapagal), it was both Rodel Cañas and his wife Analyn Flores who walked from Makati to Pasig because there was no transportation available due to the lockdown.
The baby, whom the couple named Roniel, was the couple's youngest child.
He was born prematurely on March 11 at the Rizal Medical Center, but died on April 13 due to sepsis and respiratory distress syndrome.
According to Analyn, she no longer had any chance to hold her baby because he was immediately incubated.
"Paglabas ko po ng ospital, hindi ko na po siya nadalaw dahil ganito ang panahon, lockdown," said Analyn.
While this transpired, Rodel lost his job due to the lockdown, with no money to pay the P246,789 hospital bill, according to GMA. The couple also had no means of transportation to Pasig.
"Sabi namin balikan na lang bukas (ang katawan) kasi wala kaming sasakyan. Sabi po niya dalhin niyo na ngayon para 'di na bumalik bukas. Pagkatapos binigyan ako ng P500 'pag may nagpasakay po sa amin, ipamasahe po," Rodel also shared.
Without any other option left, the couple walked from the Pasig hospital to their home in Makati. This was despite the cesarean operation of Analyn.
Analyn said that they also knew that anyone would be scared if they know that they have a dead body inside the box.
A previous KAMI report revealed that a barangay captain helped in giving the baby the proper burial. The kindhearted barangay captain was East Rembo's punong-barangay, Thelma Ramirez.
In a previous report by KAMI, the government faced problems when they imposed the initial community quarantine, which was elevated into the now ongoing enhanced community quarantine. It also suspended transportation causing massive problems with commuters.
The coronavirus outbreak started out in Wuhan, Hubei Province of China. Scientists believed that the virus came from an animal at one of Wuhan's wet markets. At present, the Philippines is under a state of calamity while the entire Luzon is under an enhanced community quarantine.
