A pregnant nurse in UK who contracted the coronavirus died, but her baby was saved and is now in good health.

The 28-year-old Mary Agyeiwaa Agyapong has been working at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital for five years, particularly at the general ward.

The mother underwent an emergency cesarean operation as soon as she was admitted at the hospital.

According to Independent, Agyapong had no serious health conditions. She was working at the ward, where coronavirus patients were being treated.

As per ABS-CBN, it was not yet clear whether the baby or the husband of Agyapong tested positive.

The chief executive of Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, the one running the hospital where Agyapong was working said that the survival of her baby was a "beacon of light at this very dark time," New York Post reported.

Mary was described as a "fabulous nurse" by her colleagues.
