A Filipino artist used his talent in sketching to pay tribute to fallen health workers in the country who were at the frontline in the fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to a report by GMA News Online, on-location sketch artist Aurelio Castro III said that he decided to sketch their portraits for he was touched by the sacrifices made by the health workers.

"Naantig ako sa sakripisyo kaya’t naisip kong gamitin ang aking skill sa pagdrawing para makapagbigay ng pagkilala sa kanila," said Aurelio.

"All the 17 fallen frontliners nagawan ko ng portrait. Nakakalungkot na nadagdagan pa sila. Kaya itutuloy ko ang pagguhit," he told GMA News Online.

In a report by Inquirer.net, the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) forced Aurelio to stay at home and pushed him to explore his art leading him to honor the late frontliners’ heroism through his art.

“Dahil sa ECQ, nahinto ang aking on-location sketching. Naisip ko na sumubok na lang muna ng ibang medium at subjects na bihira ko na magawa,” he told Inquirer.

“Una kong ginuhit ay ako at ang aking mag-ina. Kasabay nito napapansin ko na ang balita tungkol sa mga nasawing doktor dahil sa COVID,” he added.

His sketches were portraits of Dr. Greg Macasaet III, Dr. Rose Pulido, Dr. Israel Bactol, Dr. Raul Jara, Dr. Marcelo Jaochico, Dr. Sally Gatchalian, Dr. Henry Fernandez, Dr. Francisco Lukban, Dr. Hector Alvarez, Dr. Raquel Seva, Dr. Dennis Tudtud and wife Dr. Helen Tudtud, Dr. Leonardo Resurreccion III, Dr. Nicko Bautista, and Dr. Dino-Ezrah Halili.

Aurelio Castro III, aside from being an on-location sketch artist, is also the guitar player for Juan Pablo Dreams and Flippin Souls Stompers.
