Actor Robin Padilla aired his comments over the appeal of Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla to President Rodrigo Duterte to include the middle-class families in the financial aid included in the social amelioration programs.
KAMI learned that Padilla said President Duterte knows what he is doing with his job.
Through a lengthy Instagram post, Padilla said that the government giving a tax break to working class is already helping the middle-class families in coping with the COVID-19 crisis.
The actor also reiterated the importance of helping poor families first during the crisis. He also said that only the oligarchs could help the middle class by giving the right compensation and benefits to its employees.
Meanwhile, Remulla responded to the statement of Padilla. He said that he was saddened that Padilla took offense to his appeal to help the middle-class families.
Wala pong Oligarch, wala pong mahirap, wala pong makapangyarihan sa mata ng Covid,” Remulla said.
The Cavite governor also asked the actor to refrain from “wasting” the time of Filipinos by engaging in talks that do not help the people.
Ipaglalaban ko sila hanggang kamatayan,” he said.
“But please don’t waste the people’s time by engaging in talks that does not help. People are suffering. They are hungry. They are insecure about what the future brings. The least we can do is to give them hope of surviving another day and give them the sincerity of service that they expect,” he added.
Remulla also reiterated his support for President Duterte and commended his efforts to help the Filipinos during the time of crisis.
As previously reported by KAMI, Governor Remulla wrote a letter to President Duterte, asking to include the middle-class families in the emergency aid.
In a national address, President Duterte agreed to the appeal of Remulla. However, he said that the P270 billion budget for COVID-19 relief efforts is not enough.
