- The Vice President has addressed the issue through a social media post
- However, PACC Commissioner Greco Belgica has clarified the issue
- Belgica said that the issue was a personal opinion of Commissioner Luna and not of PACC as a commission
Vice President Leni Robredo has commented over the reports that a Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) Commissioner urged the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe her for her relief efforts during COVID-19 crisis.
KAMI learned that PACC Commissioner Manuelito Luna said that Robredo has been “competing” with the national government when it comes to relief efforts.
In a report by CNN Philippines, Luna said that the alleged “illegal solicitations” of the Vice President “undermine” the national government’s relief efforts.
“The National Bureau of Investigation should investigate Vice-President Leni Robredo for illegal solicitations, actions that compete with, or calculated to undermine, national government efforts in this time of public health emergency or national calamities, such as OVP’s free shuttle service and dormitories for health workers, and PPEs for health workers,” Luna said.
“Being a part of the national government, Robredo is barred from competing with the DOH (Department of Health), DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) and OCD/NDRRMC (Office of Civil Defense), or undermining their efforts, and from soliciting donations, in cash or in kind, from the taxpaying public, especially since funds have already been appropriated or set aside for relief assistance, disaster mitigation, rehabilitation, etc.,” he added.
Through a tweet, Robredo responded to the reports with a hair flip GIF.
“Una, electoral protest. Sunod, impeachment complaint, sedition case, indirect contempt. Ngayon, ang gusto NBI investigation,” she said.
“Kailangan ba du'n personal appearance o puwedeng Zoom? Dami pa kasing trabaho,” she added.
However, according to the Philippine Star, PACC Commissioner Greco Belgica clarified that the call to investigate Robredo was not from PACC as a commission, but a personal opinion of PACC Commissioner Luna.
“For this specific issue, wala po kaming ganung pinag-usapan. It is a personal opinion of Commissioner Luna and his personal request,” Belgica said.
In a previous report by KAMI, Robredo announced that her office teamed up with fashion designer Mich Dulce to start mass production of personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers.
Leni Robredo is the current and 14th Vice President of the Philippines. She has been popularly known as the widow of late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.
