Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has been summoned by the NBI anti-graft division for supposedly violating the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act, which mandates local government units (LGUs) to comply with national guidelines.

The mayor’s uncle, Senator Tito Sotto, took to social media to react to the news about his nephew.

The senator said that he principally authored the law that his nephew supposedly violated and that the NBI is misinterpreting the said law.

“What are they talking about? Laws are never retroactive if detrimental to any accused.

“NBI will be well advised to be cautious in their interpretation of the law I principally authored. Any so called violation of RA 11469 can't be retroactive,” the senator tweeted.

According to NBI spokesperson Ferdinand Lavin, the supposed violation is related to the mayor’s request to allow tricycles in his city to operate so that frontliners, health workers, patients, and employees can have access to public transportation.

In the first week of the community quarantine, Sotto allowed tricycles to transport health workers so that they could get to their places of work.

When his requests got denied, the mayor promised to comply with the directives from the Palace.

Sotto will be allowed to explain his decisions when he meets with the NBI.
