Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
KAMI learned that the result was confirmed by Marcos’ spokesperson, Atty. Victor Rodriguez.
Through the official Twitter account of Marcos, Rodriguez said that while the former senator tested positive for COVID-19, he is still in a stable condition.
Marcos explained that a day after he arrived from Europe, March 14, 2020, he went to the hospital after experiencing chest pains. However, the hospital was reportedly crowded so he decided to go home instead.
According to Rodriguez, Marcos followed the protocols given to a person under investigation (PUI) since he arrived in the country on March 13, 2020. He said that the only moment Marcos left his home was last March 22, when he went to the hospital due to difficulty in breathing.
The COVID-19 test result of Marcos was released by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) on March 28, 2020.
In a previous report by KAMI, Marcos’ sister, Senator Imee Marcos, said that Bongbong was doing fine amidst the speculations that he tested positive for COVID-19. She said that during that time, they were still waiting for the COVID-19 test result of Bongbong.
Bongbong Marcos served at the Senate from 2010 to 2016. He is the second child and only son of late President Ferdinand Marcos and former First Lady Imelda Marcos.
