Senator Imee Marcos released a vlog on March 24, 2020, calling on for the government to work with urgency amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis in the Philippines.
KAMI learned that Marcos also called out several government agencies that could extend their help to the Filipinos.
In her YouTube vlog titled “Vlog 12 2020: Working quarantine #2,” Marcos said that the government agencies and departments should work together in providing the basic needs of Filipinos, like food and supplies.
“Kung may pera ‘man, ilabas na, ilabas na, itodo na ang tulong sa tao. Ngayon na, please lang,” Marcos said.
She also slammed the additional powers that were recently given to President Rodrigo Duterte to address the COVID-19 situation in the country.
“Wag na muna ‘yang emergency, emergency na ‘yan. ‘Yung emergency powers, baka nasisindak pa ‘yung tao, natatakot eh. Paano ‘yan? Wala naman silang nakikita na tulong, na pagkain, gamot, testing kit,” she said in her vlog.
The lawmaker also urged the national government to help the mayors in handling the COVID-19 crisis in their respective local government units.
“Naku, tulungan na natin ‘yung mga mayor, hirap na hirap na, eh. Imagine naman, ang laki-laki naman ng populasyon sa Metro Manila, tulungan na natin! Tutal, nandito naman ‘yung katibayan,” Marcos said.
She called on the National Food Authority and Department of Agriculture to spend their multi-billion budget to distribute rice supplies across the country.
The senator mentioned that the Bureau of Customs should just release the perishable and canned goods to donate it to the Filipinos instead of leaving it unattended.
