The Office of Vice President Leni Robredo has teamed up with a renowned fashion designer to start mass production of personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers.

KAMI learned that well-known fashion designer Mich Dulce answered to the call of Robredo to help produce protective suits for medical frontliners.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Robredo detailed the process they went through before the prototype of their PPE was approved.

She said that the prototype was made of Tafetta Silver Back Lining that was created by Joey Socco.

“It took us more than 48 hours of going back and forth and this afternoon, finally, our prototype has been approved!!! The one approved was made by Joey Socco using Tafetta Silver Back Lining,” she wrote on Facebook.

“The pattern is for everyone’s consumption. We will be producing in bulk but you can all have your local mananahis make them for your own health frontliners, specially those in the provinces,” she added.

Earlier, Robredo tapped local designers to help in producing PPEs amid a worldwide shortage of the resource due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis.

"We are calling on all industrial designers, fashion designers, Architects, engineers etc. to come up with alternative designs for PPEs with readily available materials which can be produced and sourced locally. Of course, the requirement is it would still offer the same amount of protection," she said.
