An aircraft bound to Japan exploded and fire engulfed the plane on the runway of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Sunday.

According to a report by ABS-CBN News, Lion aircraft RPC 5880 was supposed to fly to Haneda, Japan for a 'medical evacuation.

According to a report by Manila Bulletin, 8 passengers were on board including four flight crew, a doctor, a nurse, and a Canadian national who is believed to be the patient and an American companion. Initial reports say the explosion happened around 8PM.

The plane was caught fire while taking off according to eyewitnesses.

Manila International Airport Authority Media Affairs said that there was an incident at NAIA and that a plane requested emergency assistance, but the agency did not give further details.

It was later confirmed by MIAA that there were no survivors of the aircraft accident in NAIA.
