COVID-19 has been declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization since it has already reached the majority of the countries all across the globe.
As per CNN, coronavirus, the virus behind the disease, attacks the lungs, which is why many COVID-19 patients have died from ARDS or pneumonia. Others have died from a heart attack or from their pre-existing ailments like cancer.
Scientifically known as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, or Sars-CoV-2, the virus has been known to attack the lungs, as per The Guardian.
WebMD explained that COVID-19 starts in a person's respiratory tract. George Washington University Hospital's chief of thoracic surgery, Dr. Keith Mortman reiterated that the lungs would fail to function properly.
Following this, the Washington D.C. Hospital released a 3D video of the lungs of a coronavirus patient.
It showed how the deadly virus attacks the lungs, killing off the healthy cells.
The lungs were that of a 59-year-old patient, said to be healthy with only high blood pressure as a "precondition."
The areas that are in yellow represent the inflamed or infected areas of the lungs. It also shows how rapid and massive the infection is, not just covering a single lung.
In a previous report by KAMI, doctors have died after being infected with COVID-19. They are among the frontliners who attend to the patients rushing to hospitals amid pandemic.
The coronavirus outbreak started out in Wuhan, Hubei Province of China. Scientists believed that the virus came from an animal at one of Wuhan's wet markets. At present, the Philippines is under a state of calamity while the entire Luzon is under an enhanced community quarantine.
