A biotechnology company in the United States has revealed that it already found antibodies to treat the people who are infected with the novel coronavirus disease.
KAMI learned that the popular firm called Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. has identified hundreds of antibodies that could be used to treat the said virus.
The antibodies came from the company’s genetically-modified VelocImmune mice that have an immune system comparable to human beings.
Regeneron also disclosed that it was able to isolate antibodies from COVID-19 patients who eventually recovered.
Among the hundreds of antibodies that the firm found, the best two will be selected to develop a “cocktail” treatment for those who are infected.
The large-scale production of the said antibodies will begin on the third week of April.
“The most tried-and-true near-term approach, in terms of prophylaxis, is making highly potent neutralizing antibodies against the virus itself,” George Yancopoulos, the chief scientific officer of Regeneron, quipped.

The novel coronavirus disease or COVID-19 has been declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a global pandemic. It has affected more than 190 countries including the Philippines.
