Many have been wondering how the deadly coronavirus is transmitted from one person to another. According to health experts, it is through airborne transmission. If this is the case, how long will the virus last in the air?
The SARS-CoV-2 virus, as per Market Watch, could last in the air for three to four hours. This means that it is possible that the virus will be airborne at the moment that an individual would enter a particular area and one doesn't even know it.
The staggering number was revealed in a study that was published in The New England Journal of Medicine. Princeton University scientists gave this conclusion after careful study.
Aside from the number of hours that the virus remains airborne, they also revealed that the distance from an infected person must be six-feet. They defined this area as the area of exposure.
While one may never ascertain if a person is infected with coronavirus, one must take the necessary precaution. As per the LA Times, Dr. Robert Redfield from the CDC said, it can spread through hand contamination, sneezing, and coughing.
Individuals must practice social distancing, clean the hands often and avoid touching the eyes, nose, and mouth as these are entryways for the virus.
In a previous report by KAMI, doctors have died after being infected by COVID-19. They are among the frontliners who attend to the patients rushing to hospitals amid pandemic.
The coronavirus outbreak started out in Wuhan, Hubei Province of China. Scientists believed that the virus came from an animal at one of Wuhan's wet markets. At present, the Philippines is under a state of calamity while the entire Luzon is under an enhanced community quarantine.
