The House of Representatives convened a special session on Monday to tackle a proposed measure to grant President Rodrigo Duterte additional powers to declare a national emergency to address the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis in the Philippines.

KAMI learned that House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano lauded the government’s response against the COVID-19 threat.

In a report by the Inquirer (authored by Neil Arwin Mercado) Cayetano said that both the executive and legislative will work together to help the Filipinos as they battle against COVID-19.

“Today, we want to show the world that there will be unprecedented cooperation between the executive and the legislative. That there will be unprecedented cooperation internationally. That today, you will see congressmen, government and mayors working hand in hand,” Cayetano said.

“We will help the mayors, we will help the LGUs (local government units) deliver these resources to the hands of each and every household,” he added.

In a Facebook post by the Philippine Star, Cayetano, along with other congressmen posed for photos as they sent a message for the Filipinos.

“Together with doctors and frontliners, we went to work for you, so please stay home for us!” it read.
