Senator Francis Tolentino has issued an apology amid the backlash he received for taking the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) test amid the lack of test kits in the country.

KAMI learned that Tolentino clarified the test he took was not administered by the Department of Health (DOH).

Through a Facebook post, Tolentino explained that he took the test after he was exposed to a person who tested positive for COVID-19.

My negative result was not a DOH test,” he said.

“I apologize for undertaking the same as I was likewise exposed to the persons positive with COVID-19 whom my colleagues got in contact with during our hearings,” Tolentino added.

The senator revealed in his post that he manifested dry cough and colds during his self-quarantine.

“Further, my colds and dry cough had persisted during my self-quarantine period, thus I took the test after my self cough medication appeared insufficient after four (4) days,” he wrote.

If I came out positive, I would have posted it as well to inform the people especially those who came in contact with me. My apologies to those offended,” he continued.
