Bishop Pablo Virgilio David of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kalookan has buzzed the online community after sharing the story of Doctor Greg Macasaet, an anesthesiologist who was a frontliner fighting against the deadly coronavirus.
KAMI learned that the bishop revealed the doctor's last text message to his family and friends after he was tested positive for COVID-19.
In his since-deleted Facebook post, Bishop Pablo shared that both Greg and his wife caught the virus, "Yesterday, I received a text message from a friend of the family of Dr. Greg Macasaet, an anesthesiologist and a dedicated frontliner in the fight against COVID19.
"Apparently, as they attended to patients in the emergency room of a hospital, Dr. Greg and his wife (who is also an anesthesiologist) both got infected by the virus they were fighting.
"They submitted themselves to a COVID19 testing and both came out positive. But between the two of them, Dr. Greg appeared to have been more severely affected by the disease."
The doctor then communicated his family and friends upon realizing how serious the situation was, "Dr. Greg continued to communicate with his family and friends using his cellphone, making calls and text messages.
"When he started to realize how serious his condition was, he sent the following text message yesterday:
“Good evening, my beloved brethren ! The turn of events is just no longer going in my favor. The feeling you get, aside from extreme pains all over, difficulty of breathing and as if all life is being sucked from your body!
"They will be putting cutdown lines and central tubes on me anytime soon ! If they intubate me and place me on ventilator, then the game is almost over! If Ateng (referring to his wife) survives, then my wish for her and Raymond (his son who is with autism) for a long and happy life will bear fruition!
Raymond however needs financial and emotional care for the rest of his life ! Something I may no longer be able to fulfill! It Is my fervent hope that all of you may assist the rest of my Family in our most difficult times!”
Bishop Pablo shared that he tried to contact Doctor Greg but he could no longer accommodate his calls as he had to be intubated already.
He then revealed that the doctor has already passed away earlier this morning at 4:00 AM and that he was the second casualty among the frontliners.
The bishop also added a list of the names of the doctors who are currently infected with the virus and asked the people to pray for the frontliners whose lives are at risk due to the fight against COVID-19.
The said post elicited various comments from netizens who shared their sympathies as well as their experiences having a family member who is currently a frontliner.
"Tears welled in my eyes dearest Bishop. I am with you in unison prayer."
"While I was reading your story, I keep on praying that Dr. Greg and Dr. Evalyn will survive. But then, Dr. Greg didn't make it, I felt so sad. Praying for all the frontliners, especially my granddaughter."
"At the rate we are losing our frontliners to COVID 19 infection, it won't be long before the "reservists", the retired medical professionals, will be called in, too."
"I shared this with friends in private message, many of them are nurses and hospital personnel and some doctors. Indeed, many are asking for prayers. We intensify our prayers for all our frontline workers."
As reported earlier by KAMI, a netizen's plea on social media has recently gone viral after sharing photos of the frontliners in Los Baños, Laguna. In her post, the netizen called the attention of the Department of Health regarding their current issue in Los Baños.
