The Los Angeles Lakers announced on Thursday that two of its players tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
KAMI learned that the players were not identified but now under self-quarantine.
In a report by the CBS Sports (authored by Michael Kaskey-Blomain), Lakers released a statement through the website of the NBA.
The Lakers players took the test on Wednesday and the tests were conducted within the players’ cars. They took the test following the confirmation of NBA superstar Kevin Durant that he tested positive for COVID-19, as well as three other Brooklyn Nets players.
“We learned today that two Lakers players have tested positive. Both players are currently asymptomatic, in quarantine and under the care of the team’s physician,” it read in the statement.
“All players and members of the Lakers staff are being asked to continue to observe self-quarantine and shelter at home guidelines, closely monitor their health, consult with their personal physicians and maintain constant communication with the team,” it added.
Meanwhile, in a report by the ESPN (authored by Dave McMenamin and Ohm Youngmisuk), Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart confirmed that he tested positive for coronavirus disease. He noted that he is feeling fine as he is asymptomatic.
“I’ve had no symptoms and I feel great. But the younger generation in our country MUST self distance,” he wrote on Twitter.
“This is not a joke. Not doing so is selfish. Together we can beat this, but we must beat it together by being apart for a short while. Much love!!” he added.
As previously reported by KAMI, NBA superstar Kevin Durant confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19.
The NBA suspended its season after several NBA players tested positive for coronavirus disease.
