Italy recorded the highest one-day death toll in any country ever since the coronavirus disease broke out in Wuhan, China.

KAMI learned that on Wednesday, Italy had a total of 475 new coronavirus deaths.

In a report by Al Jazeera, at least 2,629 health workers have been infected by the coronavirus as they treat the infected patients.

As reported by Daily Mail UK, the Civil Protection Agency announced that 4,207 COVID-19 new cases have been recorded. It brought the total from 31,506 to 35,713.

According to a report by CNN World (authored by Barbie Latza Nadeau and Valentina Di Donato), Dr. Giorgio Palù, the former president of the European and Italian Society for Virology and a professor of virology and microbiology of the University of Padova said that the lockdown in Italy must work because there is no other way for them to contain the coronavirus.

"We should have done more diagnostic tests in Lombardy where there was a big nucleus. There is no sense in trying to go to the supermarket once a week. You have to limit your time out, isolation is the key thing,” he said.

Dr. Palù also said that the lockdown should have been wider and stricter earlier to prevent the increase in coronavirus cases.

Italy was among the countries that have the highest COVID-19 cases and deaths. It is the first European country to impose a lockdown.
