In the midst of the rising cases of Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) in the country and around the world, Heart Evangelista gave a little reminder to pet parents.

The actress said in an Instagram post on March 14 that owners should not abandon their pets as fears heighten due to the threats of the disease.

"Just a little reminder to everyone not to abandon your pets during times like this,” she wrote.

“Currently, there’s no evidence that there is human-animal (and vice versa) transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Still, let’s do our part and help them stay clean,” she advised.

In the post, the actress and animal rights advocate also shared a photo of the World Health Organization’s statement on whether pets can spread the coronavirus.

“At present, there is no evidence that companion animals/pets such as dogs or cats can be infected with the new coronavirus. However, it is always a good idea to wash your hands with soap and water after contact with pets. This protects you against various common bacteria such as E.coli and Salmonella that can pass between pets and humans,” the statement said.

Heart then added, “Let’s all stay vigilant and do our best to research on how else we can protect ourselves and our loved ones. Stay indoors as much as possible, don’t panic, and don’t spread fake news. Stay safe, dears!”

It can be recalled that on March 7, she tweeted a photo of her dog Panda wearing a face mask.

"Kaya natin toh," she said on Twitter.
