Department of Health reports 34 new COVID-19 cases

- The Health Department reported 50 new fatalities of COVID-19 in the country

- Total number of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is now 4,648

- The country's COVID-19 deaths are already 297 after the reported 50 new deaths recently

- The Philippines has the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia

The Department of Health reports 50 new COVID-19 deaths and 220 new cases recently raising the total number to 4,648.

According to the Health Department, additional information about the new cases will be made available to the public after further validations.

The country's current total death toll is 297. The proof of "sustained community transmission" prompted the authorities to raise the response alert to Code Red, Sub-level 2.

Metro Manila was put under a community quarantine from March 15. It was extended until the 30th of April.

Meanwhile, it was earlier reported that province bound passengers flocked to Araneta Bus Terminals in Cubao City following the president's community quarantine announcement.

Some areas outside Metro Manila were advised to follow guidelines in imposing localized community quarantine.

A barangay-wide quarantine when there are at least two COVID-19 cases belonging to different households in the same barangay

  • A municipality/city-wide quarantine when there are at least two COVID-19 cases belonging to different barangays in the same municipality/city
  • A province-wide quarantine when there are at least two COVID-19 cases belonging to different municipalities, component cities or independent component cities in the same province.

The coronavirus outbreak started out in Wuhan, Hubei Province of China. Scientists believed that the virus came from an animal at one of Wuhan's wet markets. At present, the Philippines is under a state of calamity while the entire Luzon is under an enhanced community quarantine.
